Reframing coastal urban fronts.

It is possible that upon hearing 'Tropical Island', most people conjure up the cliche image of a scenic coastal landscape. However, for those living on tropical islands, the significance of the coastal landscape goes beyond this mere scenic appeal. In the past, the ports along the coast were the only link with the rest of the world and between the different towns, where traveling by sea was less arduous than by land. Today this vital role of the ports is a thing of the past; and former ports have either ceased operations and/or fallen into decay. At the present time, the coast is mostly regarded as a recreational and tourist attraction and as an economic asset due to its development potential. The following work reassesses proposals for future development in order to determine responsive approaches to the needs of the people who consider these once bustling centers home.
