Histoire contestee: Contenu et structure du debat historique dans 'R. c. Caron'.

摘要

The ongoing cause Caron, known in English as The Caron Case, is one of the most important recent judicial challenges regarding the constitutional status of the French language in Alberta and Saskatchewan. During the trial, which spanned a period of several years, the constitutional history of the French language in Western Canada was scrutinized by two key expert witnesses, Dr. Edmund Aunger and Dr. Kenneth Munro. Using a comparative perspective and content analysis, this thesis deconstructs the historical arguments made by Aunger and Munro by putting them into their interpretative contexts. It also considers the constraints and issues which arise when history is debated in the judicial sphere.
