The effect of age, race, gender, and hypertension on heart failure mortality.

摘要

The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between heart failure and variables such as age, gender, race and hypertension. In this project the data utilized are from the National Inpatient Sample of Health Care Cost and Utilization (HCUP). The software used for running statistical analysis was the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19.0. The aim of the project was to find the association and impact of variables on patients with a diagnosis of heart failure.;The final conclusion was that age and race play significant roles in heart failure (HF). The limitation of the study was that the data was cross-sectional and could not be used for the determination of causal factors. In most cases whenever heart failure is the cause of the death, there is no mention of related or underlying disease leading to heart failure.
