An exploratory study on the relationship among the dissimulation, clinical, and personality scales of two adolescent measures of psychopathology.

An exploratory factor analysis of the clinical and validity scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent (MMPI-A) and the personality scales and modifying indices of the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory (MACI) was completed with a sample of 305 adolescent psychiatric inpatients. Results from a principal components analysis with Promax rotation resulted in a five factor solution interpreted as: (a) internalizing disorders, (b) externalizing disorders, (c) general pathology, (d) underreporting validity indicators, and (e) overreporting validity indicators. Implications for psychologists who use these instruments with adolescents were discussed.
