Since manpower forms the base of the construction industry, human effectiveness is a major player when it comes to work productivity. Many researchers have suggested that the concept of giving rewards and recognition is one of the key factors that determine the performance of workers. However, little is known about reward issues and the performance evaluation criteria considered for rewarding workers. This study attempts to identify the perceptions of workers, supervisors and management with regard to these issues.;The research study found that workers and supervisors have different perspectives when it comes to rewarding workers. While supervisors believe that rewards should be in the form of promotion, workers want more praise and recognition. Similarly, supervisors rank quality of work as the first and foremost factor in determining workers' rewards; whereas, workers prefer attendance.;The top five performance evaluation criteria from each group were identified. Based on an alignment triangle, the top five aligned factors were taken into consideration in the Performance Evaluation Score Card (PESC), which can be used as a guideline for the evaluation of workers in order to reward them based on their performance.;This study has investigated the causes of the low incidence of reward programs in the Alberta construction industry and presents possible suggestions for the effective implementation of the reward program in commercial construction projects.
