The Impact of Perceived Social Support on Marital Resiliency.

This study sought to qualitatively address some of those perceived gaps in marital research by examining the impact of external social supports on marital resiliency. Using a semi structured interview and Likert type scale questionnaire, couples (N = 25) provided information about remaining resilient despite times of marital crisis, intense conflict, or disillusionment. Findings support the positive impact of external sources of social support on marital resiliency, with three categories of social support examined: instrumental, informational, and emotional, as well as the impact of poor support, minimal support, or the absence of support.
