Establishing a servant leader training program to equip, empower and excite lay leaders for ministry at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

The purpose of this ministry project is to develop and present a fourteen hour training program based on the principles of Servant Leadership to the deacons, trustees and other lay leaders of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of the Bronx, New York. This project addresses the lack of intentional training, growth and development of leaders in the church based on Biblical principles.;The foundational Scripture which informs this project can be found in John 13, in which Jesus establishes a model of leadership that speaks to the character, integrity and humility of the servant in the context of the faith community.;The curriculum/workbook for this project included six sessions on (1) The Theology of Servant Leadership; (2) The Marks of a Servant Leader: (3) The Heart of a Servant Leader (4) The Head of a Servant Leader: (5) The Hands of a Servant Leader and (6) The Habits of a Servant Leader. The primary sources for the material derived from the Holy Bible and the writings of Robert Greenleaf, the secular founder of the model of leadership called Servant Leadership.;The project was evaluated by using pre and post tests to measure ingestion of material of the participants before and after each session, attendance sheets, utilization of a logic model to launch the project and demonstrated commitment and participation of the attendees.
