摘要

Lean and Six Sigma are two methodologies known for improving processes by eliminating waste and reducing variation, respectively. Although some professionals view Lean and Six Sigma as competing methodologies because of the different philosophies and approaches, both can actually be combined into an effective and complementary methodology commonly referred to as Lean Six Sigma. Lean Six Sigma offers a variety of tools that help attain the desired goals of overall business improvement and has become more frequently popular because of its effectiveness.;This project discusses the successful tools and practices as well as the challenges with implementation of Lean Six Sigma in an analytical research and development chemistry laboratory. Specifically, this paper compares the state of the analytical chemistry laboratory before and after Lean Six Sigma implementation in order to evaluate the true benefits of pursuing such a continuous improvement venture.
