Characterization of the Neurospora crassa mat a-1 idiomorph.

The mat a-1 idiomorph of Neurospora crassa was characterized using standard molecular biological techniques. In particular, the regulation of the expression of the genes residing at the mating type idiomorph, the temporal requirements of functioning mating type polypeptides during the life-cycle, the identification of targets of mating type, and the interactions among mating type and non-mating type polypeptides, were examined. These results were used to refine a model of mating type function in Neurospora crassa.
