Radiopaque additives include heavy metals, inorganic salts and compounds containing a heavy atom substituent. A predictive method was used to estimate which opacifier formulation would be most opaque. The product of molar opacifier volume and atomic number of the opacifying element was an accurate method of qualitatively predicting opacity. Predicted Opacity= Opacifier Moles/ccxZ atomicnumber ofopacifying element; All of the opacifiers caused a decrease in percent moisture absorption. Volume fraction of opacifier and particle size affected flexural properties and additives having the largest particle size correlated to the highest flexural stress.; Viscosity increased as density, volumetric loading and particle size increased. It was demonstrated that as volume fraction loading approached the maximum or critical value, viscosity increased dramatically.
