Historical study of the thoughts on Japanese emigrants in Japanese society (Japanese text).

Japanese Emigration has been discussed in the narrow sense of Migrations, which only notes emigrants in limited times and places. As a result, a clear image of the emigrants hasn't been grasped. For example, Emigrants to Manshu (North east China) are not included, and the term "Imin" only refers to people that emigrated after the Meiji Era. This paper seeks to rebuild the notion of Imin in a broader sense, and to grasp Imin according to international labour history, originating from slavery.; Chapter 1 surveys the history of labour migration, then verifies the tendency of future international labour movement. Chapter 2 studies the tendency of Imin according to the time. Chapter 3 examines Imin from three viewpoints: population problems, the exclusion of Japanese emigrants, and migration in Asia. Chapter 4, focusing on the war period, studies the Imin's reaction and mental tendency. Chapter 5 focuses on Imin in Brazil and studies how they lived and felt. Chapter 6 makes use of "Ie-no-Hikari" (Home Lightening), monthly magazine, which is well-known especially in Japanese farm villages, to grasp the images and thoughts of similar classes of people. Chapter 7 makes use of "Manshu Imin Kankei Shiryo Shusei" (original resources related to Manshu Emigrants). It examines the people who controlled the policy in order to grasp the tendency of Japanese Imin movement. In addition, it focuses on the original class and place of Imin before emigrating.; It is no doubt that the movement of people and goods is increasing. We can see this movement especially in the enlargement of the EU. However, one wonders if human rights for migrants are protected, and if a world in which we can live together is realizing. From historical standpoints, migrants were always put in lower positions and kept weak. Even at present, they are the first to be eliminated from a society to protect its people. The EU is an experiment to realize symbiosis beyond national borders. In this tendency of the time, this study will be the basis for a new understanding of current movement, and contribute toward a new historical step, that is symbiosis.
