This study deals with the static tensile behaviour and strength of epoxy-bonded anchors embedded in hollow clay brick, hollow concrete block, concrete and limestone. A total of 234 specimens were tested in direct tension, or under combined tension, shear and bending to determine their bond characteristic, mode of failure and strength. Other test variables included anchor diameter, embedment length, anchor inclination (vertical and 45-degree), concrete compressive strength and edge distance.;Results of the investigation show six typical failure modes: smooth pullout; anchor yielding and rupture; combined cone-bond pullout; base material splitting; breakout cone and brick web cracking. The anchor inclination led to a major reduction of the tensile capacity of the anchors. Using these observations, the experimental data, and some finite element analysis results, a design method is proposed for adhesively bonded anchors.
