The battle for the skies.

This research paper examines the genesis of an European Champion in the commercial aviation industry, and its repercussions in the well established US enterprises. In three decades the European aircraft industry---Airbus---become an undisputed challenger in the field, forcing Boeing to react in order to maintain its dominant position.Due to the strategic importance of the subsector, each State not only protected but also helped both manufacturers, becoming a vital player in their daily business operations. Their current hegemonic status could not had been reached without direct State intervention. The financial aids received are under investigation by the International Community to determine their legality.The paper is divided into eight chapters dealing with the main issues of the dominance of the skies by both larger manufacturer of commercial aircraft, through the specific aircraft developed.Research and literature from aviation passionate provided the majority of information included in this paper. Magazine articles, conference proceedings were the primary source of data collected.The main conclusions of my thesis is that the battle for the skies is far over from being concluded. Each side, with specific strategies, can momentary take the lead, but would never be able to obtain a clear cut victory. Newcomers are creating turbulences that could in a near future jeopardized their flight path.
