Evolution of civil engineering and challenges.

摘要

Civil Engineering has been practiced for several millennia, and is as old as man himself. Over time, civil engineering has gradually evolved from simple practices and methods, to construction in extreme environments using complex analyses and techniques with the aid of computers, robotics and other sophisticated technology.; This thesis attempts to trace the evolution of civil engineering, by illustrating how key technological advancements have led to improvements in construction technology and methods. The thesis also describes future challenges to be faced by civil engineers, as they attempt to build more complex structures in different, difficult environments. Construction in space has also been described.
