The main purpose of this thesis is to establish whether the Polish art market is an emerging market and to examine the current market for modern and contemporary art created by artists of Polish heritage. As markets continue to flourish throughout the world in places such as Asia, Latin America, and Russia, the art market in Poland is also gaining momentum and interest for its possible investment opportunities. Within the past few years, prices for Polish modern and contemporary artworks in particular have been escalating and prominent auction houses like Sotheby's, Christie's, and Phillips de Pury are starting to offer these works at an increasing frequency. This thesis will address aesthetic, socio-political, legal, financial, and global confluences that are aligning to contribute to the exponential growth of the Polish art market.
