Employee commitment and organizational performance: A case study of a high-technology start-up.

Employees are not only an important asset to an organization, but fundamental to the success of an organization meeting the strategic goals management sets. This research is a case study analysis of employee commitment within a fast-paced, high technology start-up organization in Austin, Texas. Current and past research on employee commitment remains quantitatively focused on categorizing employees into specific constructs based on behavioral or attitudinal criteria. Exploration into why employees are committed and what fundamentals increase the employee's commitment and ultimately organizational performance are missing essentials within the research. This mixed-methodology analysis compared selected demographics with levels of commitment to identify potential relationships between these variables. The Meyer and Allen Employee Commitment Scale was used to categorize the participants into the appropriate commitment construct. Additionally, a five-question qualitative instrument was used to explore potential commitment commonalities within the organization to support talent retention and attraction efforts.
