The impact of the Nintendo Wii(TM) on depressive symptoms and attitudes toward leisure for persons with multiple sclerosis.

This retrospective study examined change in leisure attitudes and depression of 5 persons with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) following use of the Nintendo Wii(TM) for at least 6 sessions. The Ecology of Human Performance was used for the conceptual framework. Pre-test and post-test scores for the Leisure Attitude Measure and the Beck Depression Inventory-2nd edition were collected from members of an independent membership organization for persons with MS and were analyzed. The results indicated there was no significant difference in leisure attitudes following use of the Wii(TM) p = .32. However, there was a significant change in levels of depression p = .03. Lastly, there was no significant relationship between leisure attitudes and depression before or after use of the Wii(TM).
