This research study examined the relationships between authentic leadership and job satisfaction of employees within a municipal government parks and recreation agency. A total of four hundred and thirty-three employees with the City of Houston parks and recreation department located in Houston, Texas participated in this study. Four hundred and thirty-three employees participated in the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) in Rater form to measure the levels of authentic leadership qualities of the organization's management as well as a demographic questionnaire. A total of four hundred and fifteen employees participated in the Abridged Job Descriptive Index (aJDI) and the Abridged Job In General scale (aJiG) to measure job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine whether or not there were any relationships between the independent and dependent variables. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was also used to determine ethnicity, status, pay, job tier, education and division differences between groups. The results of this study indicated that demographic variables such as age, ethnicity, status, pay, job tier, education and division all had significant relationships with the facets of job satisfaction. The study findings also indicated that the components of authentic leadership specifically self-awareness and balanced processing had statistically significant results with the facets of job satisfaction. A discussion of implications, limitations and recommendations for future theoretical research is provided.
