Fish with elongated body forms that inhabit environments with a high density of material will use the environment around them in order to propel themselves. This is done by the use of contact points where the subject will make contact with an object and push off that point to move forward. Gymnallabes typus are one of the few species known to make terrestrial excursions for relocation and hunting and for this species to commit to terrestrial locomotion they need to use contact points within their environment in order to have a successful terrestrial transition. Electromyography makes it possible to measure level of muscle output through amplitude and wavelength. It may have been thought that in a terrestrial environment individuals would use higher levels of muscle activity (amplitude) though the data I have collected shows otherwise.
