This study is about my cabinet of curiosity. The cabinet is not just the physical space; it is also the intellectual space..;As an artist and teacher I struggle to demarcate between the roles of art maker and art educator. My art making practice is academic at its core. I create art in response to personal inquiry. I continue to make art because each work chronicles an ever-aging record of ideas. When I reflect on a series of works and the story created, route taken, or evolution of it; I begin to better understand my purpose for making art in life. Aside from pure pleasure, passion and an inner truth that art is good, I know that art is practical and valid as a means to physically explore and conceptually navigate the world around. It does not stop there because art is shared and has the power to change the course of our future. I’ve found my purpose in this fact. My purpose is to teach and my role as a teacher is unparalleled to my role as an artist. I teach because at a basic human level I have encountered a basic truth that like art, teaching is good.;Through my experiences in art making I’ve made art about making art and experimented with both new ideas and materials, and now strive to shape a generation of transdisciplinary thinkers who’ll lead us in creative thought and innovation.
