摘要

Native American youth and elders face heightened risks for suicide, depression, substance abuse, and physical illness, all the result of a legacy of cultural trauma and loss. In the face of these challenges, it is necessary to increase protective factors in this population. The Native American legacy of resilience is achieved through enculturation, intergenerational meaning-making, storytelling, and balance in mind, body, spirituality, and environmental context. Client-centered group therapy is a culturally appropriate theory with which to encourage resilience in Native American elders and teens. This project proposes an intergenerational, person-centered counseling group that focuses on storytelling and holistic balance. The Ethnic, Culture, Religion/Spirituality (ECR) Scale and the Resilience Scale will be used before and after the group treatment to determine if factors of resilience have increased in participants. The goal of this project is to increase resilience in Native American elders and teens through the use of culturally relevant interventions.
