Prevention of sexual harassment in organizations: Application of a risk assessment model.

This dissertation serves as a practical tool for organizational psychologists who are working with organizations to prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment. First, an introduction to sexual harassment is provided, including definitions of sexual harassment and a description of the consequences, major theoretical models, and risk factors for sexual harassment. The remainder of the dissertation discusses the application of a risk assessment model to sexual harassment. The risk assessment model can be used to assist organizations in identifying if they are at risk for sexual harassment and how they can implement risk assessment findings to better protect the organization and its employees. The foundation of the model is sexual harassment law guidelines, principles of business management and organizational psychology. I apply the psychological aspects of organizational behavior to prevention strategies. Some of the applied organizational psychology principles are organizational culture, hiring practices, decision making, distribution of power, and organizational fairness.
