摘要

A laboratory for Magneto-Optics was setup and implemented at the Department of Physics of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. This laboratory's main objective is the study of the electrical, optical, and magnetic properties of materials with special interest in ternary semiconductor compounds like Hg1-xCdxTe and Hg1-x MnxTe, which have applications as infrared detectors in the 2 to 16 mum range. In order to validate the system functionality, the magnetoresistance of Hg0.9Mn0.1Te was measured as a function of temperature, magnetic field and radiation intensity. These measurement agreed with the known behavior of the material and imparted some new information about its properties at low temperature. A computer model was implemented in the C language to simulate the behavior of Hg1-xCdxTe when subjected to various illumination profiles and different material parameters and experimental conditions. This model could also be applicable to Hg1-xMn xTe. Some exemplary results of the simulation are presented.
