摘要

As mills reduce their water usage in response to environmental concerns or energy savings, material not directly related to the process (non-process elements (NPEs)) introduced either through raw material or chemical addition, will build up within the mill, causing operational problems. These problems range from scaling of process equipment to plugging of recovery boiler flue gas passages. The WinGEMS (Windows General Energy and Material-Balance System) platform has been enhanced with new process modules for effective evaluation of issues related to NPE management. A series of manuscripts examine a wide variety of NPE management concerns throughout the pulp mill.
