Social support, treatment adherence, and health related quality of life in people living with celiac disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

Celiac disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome are two of the most under and misdiagnosed conditions in the United States. This study explored the relationship between social support, treatment adherence, and aspects of health related quality of life in people living with these conditions using an online quantitative survey method. Existing research rarely discusses how social support can benefit a person with these conditions and encourages treatment adherence. This study is grounded in Systems Theory and Gilligan's Moral Development Theory. Using multiple regression analyses, this study found that when participants reported increased satisfaction with social support they also reported an increased level of treatment adherence.
