The purpose of the quantitative, quasi-experimental, study was to examine the effect of communicating expectations of success (i.e., independent variable) on training completion (i.e., dependent variable) for military personnel attending initial-skills, post-basic, communications training at Sheppard AFB, Texas. The classes of students in communications training courses at Sheppard AFB were visited and given an expectation of success based on ASVAB test scores. One hundred twenty six individuals participated in the study; 64 (50.8%) participants were in the control group and 62 (49.2%) were in the experimental group. The results of a regression statistical method indicated that positive expectancy does not significantly predict graduation. The null hypothesis was not rejected, and the results were not statistically significant.
