Universal logic is not a logical system. It is a research program which develops methods to study logics or classes of logical systems. With the enormous growth of different logical systems a unification of methods is warranted. This essay presents a method of unification for paraconsistent logic that respects the pluralist nature of logic.;The fourth chapter contains a general and algebraic approach to paraconsistent logic. The general approach gives a way to define a paraconsistent consequence relation for any logic that has, at least, absurd (self-inconsistent) formulas.;Algebraic logic presents a paradigm for studying a large, if not all, class of logics. The central definitions of algebraic logic are contained in chapter two for later use. Chapter two also discusses various methodological concerns for the approach to universal logic. Chapter three introduces 'preservationism' which is used in chapters three and four.
