This thesis entitled " L'ingenierie des processus de la logistique inverse " reviews the reverse logistics processes to understand their functioning and interactions in order to propose a reverse logistics conceptual framework.; In the first part, a conceptual framework is proposed to fill a gap in the reverse logistics literature. To begin with, a literature review is done on the necessary themes to develop the conceptual framework, namely the decisions, the economical aspects and the performance indicators. Afterwards, the conceptual framework is divided by processes. These processes are mapped in a generic way in order to cover most cases.; The reverse logistics conceptual framework proposed has seven processes, namely the gatekeeping step, the collection, the sorting, the disposal, the information system, the expedition system, and the coordination system. The need to return a product triggers product's entry into the reverse logistics system. Predicting such returns in terms of quantity, quality, and location, however may prove difficult. The first step, gatekeeping, serves to acknowledge incoming returns and, in certain cases, prevent them. The collection step intervenes after a need is expressed. Here, the responsibility of shipping the product may rest with the customer, a third party or the company. When the return arrives at the sorting step, the company verifies the returned product to determine whether to accept or refuse it. At that time, a decision on its disposal can be taken to avoid any further unnecessary costs. If the disposal, the next step, takes place in the same location, the company must consolidate the returns and ship them. The last step involves disposing of the returned products, and there exit several means by which to do it: repackage, repair, remanufacture, upgrade, reuse, reconfigure, recycle, donate, revalue, resell on other markets, or send to landfill. The company must choose the method that most respects its: customer service, economical, and environmental priorities. A reverse logistics information system is important to ensure a good followup. The expedition system remains the exit point of the system. The returned product can leave the system in many ways, either as waste for a landfill, through incineration, or as sorted raw materials for recycling or repaired product, etc.; The second part of the thesis deals with a concrete reverse logistics problem for the transport of residual hazardous waste (RHW) at Hydro-Quebec.
