The relationship between environmental sustainability training and environmental compliance: An investigation of performance in federal organizations.

This quantitative study analyzed the relationship between environmental training and compliance with environmental regulations. This dissertation examined the effects that different training (a) quantities, (b) types, (c) lengths, and (d) frequencies can have on environmental performance of an organization. The researcher limited this study to environmental managers at Federal owned facilities. Respondents returned 98 surveys out of 402 mailed for a response rate of 24.4%. The results of this research found evidence that a relationship exists between environmental training and organizational environmental performance; this can help managers better prioritize and justify environmental training requirements. Specifically, the results of t tests showed a significant and positive relationship between organizational environmental performance and the quantity and frequency of training at the .05 significance level. The results showed a marginally significant relationship (p .06) between environmental performance and length of training. The results did not show a relationship between the type of training and organizational performance.
