摘要

2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT) is an anthropogenic chemical substance used in the chemical and munitions industries. It has been found in the subsurface of manufacturing and waste disposal facilities. Because it is known to cause disorders and cancers when exposed to laboratory animals, it poses health threat to humans and the environment. Therefore, the goal of this research was to assess the feasibility of a sequential treatment system to degrade 2,4-DNT in groundwater, using chemical reduction zone consisted of granular iron followed by oxygen diffusion zone and an aerobic aquifer material zone.; To obtain design parameters for the sequential treatment system, several preliminary experiments were conducted, including laboratory reaction vessel and column experiments containing granular iron as well as microcosm experiments. In the presence of granular iron, 2,4-DNT was reduced rapidly, through two unidentified intermediates, to 2,4-diaminotoluene (DAT). The normalized pseudo-first-order reaction rate constant, kSA, was calculated to be 1.8 x 10-4 L/m2/min in the reaction vessel experiment. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
