A comparative analysis of topoi, genre, and the formation of historical narratives in the ancient Near East and Mediterranean with a focus on the Book of Chronicles.

摘要

This thesis examines genres of history and the formation of historical discourses in ancient Israel, Mesopotamia, and Greece. After discussing the didactic nature of historical narratives, the formation of historical narratives, and genre negotiations in the ancient Near East and Mediterranean, this thesis cross-culturally compares and analyzes topoi, narrative structures, and narrative patterns from the Book of Chronicles with Mesopotamian historical discourses, Herodotus' Histories, and Xenophon's Hellenica.
