Information technology leadership training in the United Nations.

摘要

This action research project examined what elements or competencies are required for an effective leadership training program for those in the field of information technology (IT). The intention of this study was to contribute towards the overall development of United Nations organizational reforms, focusing on staff development in the core competency of leadership, and to assist the International Computing Centre in generating new business within the UN organization. Based in New York, this study used qualitative on-line surveys and quantitative focus groups to collect the experiences and opinions of information technology specialists worldwide. Using the research findings, recommendations were developed to craft a leadership training curriculum for mid-level UN information technology staff and to identify essential topics for leadership development in the United Nations and the field of information technology in general.
