摘要

Scientists from all medical disciplines need more money. Current United States fiscal crisis created in part by escalating costs for national defense, as well as soaring outlays for Medicare and Medicaid spending, dominate federal and state budgets, making it difficult to sustain or increase government commitment to a wide range of other human service programs, including a pledge to biomedical research. However, alternative methods of financing scientific research can become available with the cooperation of public policy advocates and the private sector.;Tax Credits and Financing the Social Good: a Collection of Related Papers utilizes both historical and contemporary evidence as testimony to encourage open-minded politicians to promote a method of financing that would offer incentives in the form of tax credits for individual and corporate donations to non profit biomedical research. Within each paper, individual categories provide brief but essential elements to cultivate the reader's awareness of the potential for legislative sponsorship.;Tax Credits and Financing the Social Good: a Collection of Related Papers hypothesizes that history demonstrates Americans would welcome a public policy that minimizes government, decreases taxes, and promotes modern-day social justice, and that sufficient public and private support exists in current tax incentive laws to advocate for additional legislation that would offer tax credits for donations to non profit biomedical research. Contributions would increase, and given time, economies would improve, offering Americans a healthier and more productive society.
