Thinking inside-out: An inter-disciplinary approach for sustainable building design.

摘要

This project delivers a sustainable solution for the design of a student design centre in Winnipeg---primarily intended for imparting knowledge about sustainable means in building design. In doing so an emphasis is laid on a holistic process of design involving considerations from various disciplines as facilitated through varied experiences of the team involved in the project with backgrounds in interior design, architecture, and city planning. Professionals from such varied backgrounds provide views and suggestions for a comprehensive assimilation of ideas to develop the program for the centre. The project asserts on the issue of spreading knowledge of sustainability among the users and to aid in this process, the interior design is conceived and is expressive of Gibson's affordance theory. Production of interior spaces informs the envelope of the building by making environmental sustainability a primary concern. The LEED(TM)1 rating system is used as means to guide the design process and to promote sustainable ideas.; 1LEED(TM)-Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
