The civil engineering profession and the Green Revolution in the U.S.A.

The dependency of the US economy on oil combined with the foreseeable end of the oil supplies promises to become the undoing of our way of life, unless we act now.;This paper discusses the Green Revolution in the United States since its inception with the Rockefeller and Ford Foundation grant to develop high yielding crop varieties.;Current issues examined are: the newly proposed Californian transportation system, high performance buildings, and the latest advancements in Civil Engineering including the cementless concrete used by the WVDOT. LEED Platinum and Gold-Certified Texas examples, such as the Shangri-La Gardens and the Duncan Dorms at Rice University are looked at more in depth. It concludes with the vision for the future: Tomorrow's Civil Engineers, are we leaders or followers?
