This dissertation presents the results of investigations into the behavior of reciprocal chiral materials created using conical coil wire inclusions embedded within a host medium. The electromagnetic response of the conical coil wire inclusion is described and compared to the commonly used helical coil wire inclusions. An existing transmission line representation of the helical wire inclusion impedance is generalized and extended to model the conical wire inclusion with results compared to a Method of Moments approach. The cascaded transmission line model of the conical coil wire inclusion impedance is used to reveal the source of predicted conical coil inclusion resonances. Concepts from Design of Experiments (DOE) are employed to gain insight into conical coil wire inclusion resonance behavior for variations in inclusion geometry. Response predictions for a sample Dallenbach Layer and Polarization Converting Slab using conical coil inclusions are presented. Axial Ratio predictions for a Pasteur slab using Tumble Average Forward Scattering are also discussed. Experimental validation of equivalent antenna models of helical coil and conical coil wire inclusions, as well as a preliminary attempt at creation of isotropic chiral media in rectangular waveguide using conical coil wires, are presented in an Appendix.
