《孟子》英译比较研究——以孟子的经济思想为例

摘要

《孟子》是中华文化典籍中的瑰宝，在我国文化传承中占有举足轻重的地位，一直以来受到海内外人士的共同关注。《孟子》详细地记录了孟子的言行，是他本人思想的集中体现。英译活动最早始于十九世纪二十年代的海外传教士，香港和内地的翻译起步相对较晚。直到二十世纪中后期，《孟子》英译研究才逐渐开始，方向集中在译本翻译特征分析、译者研究和孟子哲学观英译研究等方面。虽然孟子的经济思想对后世产生很大影响，但是英译研究成果数量极为有限。
　　本文以《孟子》三个英译本(理雅各1861、刘殿爵1970和杨伯峻等1999)为研究对象，选取其中孟子的经济思想英译为主要研究语料，旨在展现孟子经济思想在不同历史时期和文化背景的译述成像。具体来说，研究以巴斯内特为代表的“文化翻译观”为理论分析工具，采用描写性研究方法，从译者思想、翻译背景，翻译动机、译文表述、翻译策略与方法等方面入手，着重比较中国古代经济思想中“生产资料”、“人民生活”、“税”、“井田制”、“产品交换”和“产品价格”六个经济话题的英译。研究认为，孟子经济思想英译的差异性体现为语言层面的转换，其本质是不同社会文化背景、历史背景、翻译传统、翻译目的和译者思想等因素共同作用下的具体表现。译者使用的英译策略和方法为孟子经济思想的英译提供了经验。
