《红楼梦》人物描写中的隐含意义翻译—语用对等视角

摘要

《红楼梦》是一部中国传统文化的百科全书，要将这样一部经典名著译介给西方读者，译介给其价值观念、文化传统、宗教信仰都大相径庭的英文读者，所要从事的就不仅仅是一部小说的翻译，而是两种文化的交流、融合。这部小说自从其手抄本面世以来，红学研究就一直不断发展，至今已经有很长的历史。红学研究非常全面而细致，但是其中有些研究尤其是对《红楼梦》翻译的批评研究还远远不够。《红楼梦》作为中国古典小说艺术的最高峰，其刻画小说人物的行为、心理变化、性格特点以及人物会话语言特征时，作者以其高超的写作技巧使用了大量的语用隐含意义，给读者留下广阔的想象空间。
　　本文把语用学与翻译的相关理论结合起来，分析杨译本和霍译本两个全译本中译者如何达到小说人物描写的语用对等。作者提出分别运用语用学的相关理论：语境，会话隐含和语用预设以及语用对等的两个基本要求来分析两个英译本，探讨译者如何领会原文的预期语用隐含并使其在目的语中再现。本文发现，完全的语用对等几乎是不可能的。两种语言之间的不同、两种文化背景的差异、对原文理解的偏差以及译者所受影响的主流意识形态与译者主体性都会使得译者在实现语用对等时困难重重。因此，一个好的译文应当从克服以上困难来努力。本文的研究意在尝试为小说人物描写研究翻译提供新的思路和方法，为翻译实践提供指导。
