《湖湘文化十九讲》之文化词英译实践报告

摘要

湖湘文化曾是中华文化史上浓墨重彩的一笔，湖南这片文化底蕴深厚的土地孕育的历史人物也改写了中国历史。因此传播湖湘文化对于发展中华文化具有重要意义。本文是一篇以笔者翻译《湖湘文化十九讲》一书为基础的翻译实践报告。源文作者通过对湖南地理环境、历史发展、民间习俗等的描写，为读者展现了湖湘文化的独特性及其在中国文化中的重要地位。
　　在翻译《湖湘文化十九讲》的过程中,笔者发现源文本中出现了大量文化词。文化词虽是只字片语，却包含了大量为本民族所特有的文化信息，而这些文化信息往往是一个民族在长期共同生活中所产生的共识、习俗及价值观等。因此译者很难在另一种文化中找到与之完全对应的表达。而文化词又能够帮助外国读者了解和学习中国文化，有利于中国文化走出去。因此，文化词的翻译成为翻译界一大不可避免的难点。本实践报告对于文化词的处理遵循传递文化内涵为首的原则，根据原文本的形式和内容的要求，力求传达完整文化信息。根据奈达对文化的分类采取，作者将文本中的文化词分为生态文化词、物质文化词、社会文化词、宗教文化词及语言文化词，针对其不同特点采用不同的翻译方法，如“增译法”主要用于处理社会文化词及部分必要说明的生态文化词，“直译加注”主要用于处理带有鲜明中国文化特色的宗教文化词等，“附录”主要针对大量人名。通过采用这些方法，力求将文化词的文化信息完整准确地传递给译文读者。
　　通过该报告，笔者希望为文化词的翻译提供一些可借鉴的方法和经验，从如何理解文化词，到如何将文化词在丰富的文化语言环境中阐释给外国读者。其次，报告也表明，对于涉及文化的文本，译者不应局限于翻译文本的字面意思，而更应将字里行间的文化内涵传达给目标语读者，让他们在丰富的背景文化信息中品读作品，这样不仅有利于外国读者更好的理解作品，更能够进一步了解中国的优秀文化。
