This paper describes a "wireless agent" for automatic connection based on RF information in wireless data communication using the Personal Handyphone System (PHS) a pico cell system widely used in Japan. In a mobile environment, even if a connection is once established, a sudden disconnection may occur due to a disturbance and/or a variation of the RF environment. To minimize such inconvenience, we developed a method to estimate a connection time and a velocity of a moving client using received signal strength, together with cell station IDs(CS-ID). Based on the estimated connection time, our "wireless agent" software automatically establishes a connection at a proper timing to complete a delegated task of transferring a file to and from a remote server. We show experimental results to demonstrate the usefulness of our method.
