This paper mainly deals with the comparative studies of 7 species in Phoebe from China. Vessel element walls are non helical thickenings, and frequency ranges from 15 to 30/ mm~2. Average trangentical diameter is mostly less than l00μm. Average vessel element length varies 0.40-0.45mm. Perforations are predominatly simple and occasionaly scalarifrom and it is less than 15 bars. The end walls of vessel elements are oblique (45° -55° ). Intervascular pitting alternates throughout. Fibers thin to thick walled. Their length is 1-1.5mm, the width of them is in 10-40μm. Septate fibres present commonly. Rays heterocellular are predominantly H and ID and 1-3 cells wide usually. The height os all rays is less than 1.5mm. Axial parenchyma is abundant and mostly vasicentric. Oil and mucilage are commonly in the sencondary xylem and usually distribute in ray cell.
