The main objective of this study was to demonstrate the efficiency of a novel ultravioletrndisinfection system for a wide variety of effluents, ranging from primary wastewater tornfiltered, tertiary wastewater. All studies were performed with a Product Demonstration Unitrn(PDU) version of the commercial UV system.rnThe treatment performance of the UV system ranged from 175 gpm to 700 gpm per lamp.rnThere was a strong correlation between the treatment performance and the transmittance ofrnthe effluent. Elevated iron levels negatively impacted the performance of the system. Therndistance between the lamp and the reactor’s walls was a critical parameter; the optimalrndistance was highly dependent on the water quality. The power cost ranged from 0.17 torn0.66 ct/1,000 gal.rnCombining a high treatment’s flow rate per lamp and low power cost, the UV systemrnpresented in this paper represents a breakthrough in innovative UV disinfection technology.
