Brachial Plexus Neurotization Using the Spinal Accessory, Transverse Cervical and Cervical Ervical ANSA Nerves

Avulsion of the brachial plexus consists in rupturing completely the proximal ending of its spinal roots from the spinal cord. There has been substancial debate regarding the existence of nerve specificity, the mechanism underlying nerve outgrowth, and the involvement of opposite nerves in this surgical procedure. Review of the ontogenetic development of the nervous system is presented. Rearrangement of the central nervous system and its plasticity during recovery of coordinated movements is emphasized.
