RCC Dams in Spain: Development, Innovation and International Experience

摘要

Spain was one of the pioneering countries in RCC dams,with Castillblanco de los Arroyos dam built in 1985.Since then Spain has been the European country with the largest RCC dam experience.There are currently 27 RCC dams in operation and one under construction.The extensive RCC experience accumulated along the past 30 years by the dam owners and by Spanish engineering and construction companies has created a vast knowledge that is worthwhile preserving and exporting to other countries.This paper reviews the main features of the Spanish RCC dams and its long-term performance,summarizing the design philosophies,construction methodologies and their essential characteristics:cross section,main structural aspects and mixtures.Based on this experience,the technology has evolved considerably bringing innovation and improvements in the efficiency and quality of modern RCC dams.The Technical Guidelines for Dam Safety published by the Spanish National Committee on Large Dams (SPANCOLD) have been updated in 2012.The main objective of this updating has been the incorporation of latest innovations and recommendations for RCC dam design and construction.Its new content is summarised in this paper.Finally,the paper shows the application of the Spanish experience in other countries
