Semantic understanding of the domain for which a system or solution is beingrndeveloped is crucial. Defining the ontology as part of domain modelling at the onset of a projectrnpermits effective effort as you communicate with stakeholders and move into formal definitionrnof requirements. However, there is another Universe of Discourse in play when working as anrnintegrated product team (IPT) on a project. Many times the terms used by the project team arernassumed to be understood, but with the complexity of today’s systems, the tools used to creaternproject artefacts, and the teams needed to realize solutions, this is not always the case. Thisrnpaper will present a case study illustrating the method applied to model, using UML, thernontology for a Universe of Discourse that represents the problem domain and the ontology of thernproject team developing the solution.
