The Potential of Commercial Satellite SAR Images for Revealing Pattern of Life

If the SAR data are acquired in a repeat-pass interferometric configuration, it will be possible to detect small-scalernchanges from the interferometric coherence images. The coherence images add a new dimension to the pure SARrnbackscatter change. Results from analyzing several COSMO-SkyMed? SAR images using 1-day and 8-days repeatpassrnshows that a sequence of three or more SAR coherence images will enable the user to better distinguish betweenrnnatural changes and man-made activities. Analysis of coherence images also reveal “pattern of life” that very well canrnbe used to update a total situational awareness map within a region of interest.
