Using a 2D colon to guide 3D navigation in virtual colonoscopy

We introduce a method of navigation to perform virtual colonoscopy guided by a 2D mathematically opened colon. The main goals of this approach are to reduce the attention load of visual polyp search from 3D to 2D; to avoid missing areas due to occlusion; and to reduce the time needed for a complete examination.
