Abstract: A comparison between two flow visualization studies ofan axisymmetric circular jet issuing into still fluid,using two different experimental techniques, isdescribed. In the first case, laser-inducedfluorescence is used to visualize the flow structure,while smoke is utilized in the second. Quantitativeinformation was obtained from these visualized flowregimes using two different digital imaging systems.Results are presented of the rate at which the jetexpands in the downstream direction and these comparefavorably with the more established data. !12
