In June of 2008, the Manhattan Beach Civic Association was faced with a problem experiencedrnby many waterfront communities on the Chesapeake Bay. Cypress Beach was receiving directrnstormwater runoff from an asphalt swale. The swale transported high energy and potentiallyrnpolluted water from upland impervious surfaces to the beach. In partnership with privaternconsultants and the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, the Manhattan BeachrnCivic Association was able to remove the asphalt swale and replace it with a Regenerative SteprnPool Storm Conveyance System (SPSC). This manuscript focuses on how the Manhattan BeachrnCivic Association utilized volunteer efforts and the assistance of the Anne Arundel CountyrnPublic Works to fund, build, and complete valuable post-construction monitoring data for arnregenerative SPSC system. The post-construction monitoring carried out by volunteers providedrndata that adds to the existing body of research and monitoring on the ability of regenerativernSPSCs to attenuate stormwater flows in non-tidal streams. Future steps and recommendations forrnother communities are also presented to further promote post-construction monitoring ofrnRegenerative SPSCs with volunteer labor.
