Pollinating Green Stormwater Infrastructure in Detroit, Michigan

In 2016, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) rolled out sweeping changes to its stormwater management program. In response to the onboarding of a significant number of new parcels and projected monthly charge increases to certain larger properties, DWSD hired OHM Advisors, Inc., a Detroit based engineering, architecture and planning firm to perform engineering site assessments for over 250 separate non-residential properties within the City. Through this contract, DWSD has gained an understanding of the potential impacts of installing new GSI Practices on private property throughout the city. DWSD has gained a better understanding of potential inhibitors as well. Both proposed GSI practices metrics and feedback from property owners are being used to influence changes that will improve the drainage charge credits and Capital Partnership Program.
